Jessica Szohr has been added to the cast of new movie “Light Years”. Ed in nieuwe campange Penshoppe
Gossip Girl actor Ed Westwick will visit the Philippines to shoot for Penshoppe’s Pre-Holiday Season 2011 and Summer 2012 campaign. Westwick is the overly confident and sexy bad boy in the popular American TV series Gossip Girl, which is based on the best-selling book series about privileged teenagers who attend an elite private school in New York City.

Since the introduction of Westwick’s bad boy character, Chuck Bass, on Gossip Girl in 2007, his alter ego has made a unique style impression that has since landed him on magazine covers. His style has also been copied by men the world over. This is one of the reasons Penshoppe has chosen him to be its newest face for future campaigns.

In a press release sent to (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other media, brand manager Alex Mendoza stated that “the selection of [Westwick] was for the British-born actor to headline the brand’s 2011/12 campaign in the Philippines as well as to introduce a fresh new face that will represent Penshoppe’s new and revitalized image.

“We believe it is time to appoint someone on an international scale. It’s time to show everyone that Penshoppe is upgrading to international levels. Someone like Ed fits the mindset and is admired by our market.” Westwick will also be the headliner of the brand’s 25th anniversary.

“Ed will embody the free and easy, sophisticated casual style that the brand is known for.

“His presence and charisma will definitely wake the Philippines to the fact that what is originally Philippine-made can also be worn proudly by a worldwide icon as well as people around the world,” said Mendoza.

Ed is set to fly to Manila first week of June to shoot the campaign with Australian fashion photographer Darren Tieste in cooperation with international publicity firm PR Asia Worldwide.

Jessica over haar vertrek in ‘Gossip Girl’
Jessica Szohr is leaving Gossip Girl, but she’s not too sad about saying goodbye to the CW series.

In fact, the actress tells me that after years of playing Vanessa Abrams on the small screen, she was ready to move on.

So what’s next for Jess? And who will she stay in touch with from the cast, who includes her former boyfriend Ed Westwick?

“When I started the fourth season, I kind of had a talk with the producers,” she told me this week at SoBe’s Try Everything party in NYC. “We didn’t know what we were going to do with the characters. After playing someone for four years, it can be a little repetitive. So I was ready for a change.”

Basically, she felt she had done all she could with the character, saying:

“I had so much fun and I made friends I’ll have for a lifetime and it was so great to work in the city, but I got the most I could out of Vanessa.”

But she says she’s still keep in contact with some people more than others.

When I asked her if she thought she’d stay in touch with the cast, she replied: “Probably the people I’m closest to.”

Wonder if having to work with the guy she split with had anything to do with decision to move on to other projects?

It sounds like her primary focus will be on the big screen going forward.

“I have two movies that I start in August and July and I have a couple movies coming out in the next couple months,” she told me of her post Gossip plans.

But she’s making time for fun, too.

“I’m gonna take a trip with all my girlfriends,” she told me. “I’ll probably go to the Hamptons a few times.”

Just probably not the same weekend Ed Westwick is going, we’d imagine.

Blake Lively: ‘Tabloids help Gossip Girl ratings’
Blake Lively has admitted that the attention of the paparazzi and tabloid press help boost the ratings of Gossip Girl.

The actress told The Independent that the people behind the series are fine with the stars of the show being the topic of newspaper gossip.

“It makes sense to draw parallels between the show and what goes on in my real life,” Lively said.

“The characters on the show are somewhat famous in the world that they inhabit and they make stuff up and people are documenting what they do all the time and so being in the tabloids no doubt helps keep our ratings high, and if we don’t like it, I’m sure our producers don’t mind.”

Lively again explained that she is not like her character Serena van der Woodsen, adding: “I wear pretty clothes and live in New York so people think I’m very similar to her; they see her talk and interact in their homes once a week and they probably assume that is who I am, but it’s not me.

“None of it is mine. It’s nice to play dress-up, it’s like being a little girl and putting on make-up and outfits. I grew up in Burbank and I love living in New York City so much [because of the shopping] and I now have a way better wardrobe.”

Ed scoort rol in ‘Romeo en Juliet’
By my head, here come the Capulets! The upcoming film adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet” now has not only its Juliet (Hailee Steinfeld, as previously reported), but hotheaded cousin Capulet as well—as Variety reports that Ed Westwick of “Gossip Girl” is in final negotiations for the role of Tybalt.

For those who haven’t kept up on their Shakespeare, Tybalt is the play’s chief antagonist and is ultimately killed by Romeo after he murders the leading man’s bestie in a duel. (We’d say “Spoiler Alert,” but…well, if you don’t know what happens at the end of “Romeo and Juliet,” then there’s no way you’re reading this from your lovely home under that rock.) And now that he’s on board with the film, Ed is in some elite company: The role has been previously played by John Leguizamo and Alan Rickman, among others.

Casting seems to be moving slowly on this one; the only other role that’s been filled is that of Juliet’s Nurse, and despite several excellent suggestions as to who should play him, we’re still waiting on our Romeo. It’s okay though! This gives Ed plenty of time to practice his swordsmanship and work on his thumb-biting technique.
